Things to do in Accra

  • Jamestown. This small town, which has been incorporated into the city of Accra, is like a hustling and bustling piece of living history. It came into existence in the 17th century and since then life hasn't changed much. It is still the preferred fishing harbour of Accra's fishermen and reminders of a time long past are to be found everywhere.
  • The National Theatre. If you want to witness what Accra has to offer in terms of the performing arts, then you have to visit the National Theatre. The National Theatre Players, The National Dance Company and The National Symphony Orchestra consider this space their home, so chances are good that you'll catch a glimpse of all three during your visit.
  • Makola Market. Get ready for some traditional African shopping when you visit Makola Market. Fresh food items, medicines, shoes, pots and loads of other curiosities can be found. For all those who intend to cook for themselves while in Accra, this is the place to shop.
  • Labadi Beach. This is the most famous and well-maintained beach in Accra. There are also loads of live musical performances and the music ranges from cultural drumming and reggae to hip hop.
