Off to a flying start
Wow! 2011 has gotten off to a flying start with February already over and March upon us. Speaking of flying starts, we would like to congratulate the Proteas on their first performance in the ICC Cricket World Cup. Like the rest of South Africa, we are behind 'the boys' to the very end.

Introducing a new NONSTOP to New York and back…
Effective 01 May 2011, SAA will offer its customers the convenience of flying non-stop between Johannesburg and New York. Our non-stop flights to New York will allow a full day in Johannesburg with an early morning arrival in New York. Further, the reduced travel time result in fast and efficient connections to several key US destinations such as Boston, Chicago, Florida, California, as well as Canada and the Caribbean.
The non-stop flight from Johannesburg to New York (SA203) will depart OR Tambo International Airport daily at 20h35 (SA local time) arriving John F. Kennedy International Airport at 06h40 (New York local time), whilst the non-stop flights from New York (SA204) will depart daily at 11h15 arriving in OR Tambo International Airport at 08h40. SAA will utilize the Airbus 340-600 on this ultra long haul operation.

South African Airways becomes Airbus A330 operator |
|
|
|
South African Airways has become the latest operator of Airbus' eco-efficient A330 family. The A330-200 is the first of six to be delivered to Aircastle Limited during 2011, all of which will be leased to South African Airways.
Seating 36 passengers in business class and 186 in economy, the aircraft will feature the latest in-flight entertainment and will be used primarily on long haul routes from the airline's bases in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
The new A330 will join South African Airlines existing Airbus fleet of 11 A319s, 14 A340-200/300s and 9 A340-600s enabling the airline to reap the benefits of Airbus' unique cockpit and operational commonality. This allows airlines to use the same pool of pilots, cabin crews and maintenance engineers, resulting in operational flexibility and significant cost savings.
