In order to satisfy World Health Organization and country requirements, South African Airways is required to disinsect the aircraft cabin in accordance with the "blocks away method".
The "blocks away" method requires that the insecticide be sprayed after the cabin doors have been closed and prior to take-off. It will not be possible for the Cabin Crew Members to do this any earlier.
For the purpose of disinsection of SAA aircraft, single-shot Servopak Airline Insecticide (Reg. No. L1907 Act 36/1947) aerosol dispensers are utilised. All possible insect harbourages inside aircraft must be treated. The active ingredient is PERMETHRIN.
